Natures Recipe Dog Food Recall

Currently Natures Recipe dog food is not involved in any pet food recall because they are not listed on the FDA's pet food recall list.

Before you buy dog food online or when you compare dog foods, always check the FDA's pet food recall website for up to date information regarding pet food recalls.

Nature's Recipe Farm Stand Selects

Farm Stand Select When you compare dog foods, you must first look at the first ingredients listed. This Nature Recipes dog food first ingredient is a named meat product (turkey).

Let me explain, this is not a meat meal ingredient. Instead it is a non-dehydrated ingredient, that is inclusive of water content (about 80%). So when the water is removed in order to make it a dry dog food, the ingredient will weigh around 20% of it's original weight.

Ingredients are listed in order by their weight, so it is unlikely that this dehydrated ingredient would be the primary ingredient and should more accurately be placed further down the ingredient list. The real primay meat portion of the dog food is the second ingredient which is turkey meal.

Natures Recipe Farm Stand Selects has meat ingredients heading it's list (turkey and turkey meal), followed by two grains (ground rice and barley), with fat content next, this product probably contains an acceptable amount of meat.

The grains in this product are rice and barley, which are decent quality grains. Otameal is another grain added, while potato protein elevates the protein content.

This Natures Recipe dog food also contains cranberries and apples in the fruit group, and pas and carrots in the vegetable group, all of which are quality ingredients. The tomato pomace is used as a filler.

So in summary, Nature's Recipe farm Stand Select dry doog food has quality ingredients, wuth the only thing holding it back from getting a real good rating is the lack of meat in the product.

Nature's recipe Farm Stand Select Dog Food Ingredients
Turkey, turkey meal, ground rice, barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols),oatmeal, potato protein, cranberriers, apples, peas, carrots, animal digest, tomato pomace, sodium tripolyphosphate, flax see, potassium chloride, salt, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), inositol, niacin supplement, vitamin A supplement, D-calcium pantothenatie, thiamine mononitrate, beta-carotene, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, vitamin D3 supllement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement) minerals (zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, maganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), yucca schidigera, choline chloride, rosemary extract.

Nature's Recipe Large Breed Dog Food

Nature's Recipe Large Breed You will notice that the first ingredient listed in this Natures Recipe dog food is chicken meal, and the next meat product is not listed until the #6 ingredient (chicken). This is down on the list because once you remove the water content, and dehydrate it, you end up with around 20% of it's original weight.

Another meat related ingredient (meat digest), in this Natures Recipe dog food is listed so far down on the ingredients list that it does not contribute very much to the meat content of the food.

"Digest" is the material that comes when you use chemicals and or enzymatic hydrolysis on clean and undecomposed tissue. this ingredient is from an unidentifiable animal source, making it a low quality ingredient.

The second ingredient (oatmeal), third ingredient (pearled barley) and the foruth ingredient (brown rice), suggest that this product has more grain than meat. The next ingredient is poultry fat, which is a low quality ingredient found in low quality foods.

"Unidentified ingredients" are explained by the AAFCO as being obtained from the tissues of poultry through the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. This ingredient contains mostly glyceride esters of fatty acids with no additions of free fatty acids.

Tomato pomace is used as filler and if you notice there are no fruits or vegetables in this formula, lowering the quality of the product. This dog food also uses synthetic vitamin K, which is a substance that is being linked to liver disease.

In summary, Nature's Recipe Large Dog Breed Formula is not of high quality, given the low meat content and no fruits and vegetables.

Nature's Recipe Large Breed Dog Food Ingredients
Chicken meal, oatmeal, pearled barley, brown rice, poultry fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), chicken, brewer's yeast, dicalcium phosphate, tomato pomace, salt, animal digest, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, chicory, alfalfa nutrient concentrate, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), inositol, niacin supplement, vitamin A supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, beta-carotene, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), minerals (zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), L-carnitine, glucosamine hydrochloride, choline chloride, chondroitin sulfate, yucca schidigera, rosemary extract

Nature's Recipe Toy Breed Dog Food

Nature's Recipe Toy Dog Food You will notice that the first ingredient listed is this Natures Recipe dog food is a named meat product (chicken). However once you remove the water content, and dehydrate it, you end up with around 20% of it's original weight.

The first true meat ingredient is third on the list (chicken meal), which suggests that this dog food is lacking in meat content.

"Digest" is the material that comes when you use chemicals and or enzymatic hydrolysis on clean and undecomposed tissue. this ingredient is from an unidentifiable animal source, making it a low quality ingredient.

The second ingredient (pearled barley), fourth ingredient (oatmeal) and the fifth ingredient (brown rice), suggest that this product has more grain than meat.

Tomato pomace is used as filler and so is beet pulp, with the latter ingredient being controversial because it has been claimed by some to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats, but can cause stress to liver and kidneys in the process. This ingredient has also been known to cause allergies and ear infections for canines.

If you notice there are no fruits or vegetables in this formula, lowering the quality of the product. This dog food also uses synthetic vitamin K, which is a substance that is being linked to liver disease.

In summary, Nature's Recipe Toy Breed Dog Food is not of high quality, given the low meat content and no fruits and vegetables, along with the controversial beet pulp ingredient.

Nature's Recipe HealthySkin Vegetarian Dog Food

Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin This Natures recipe dog food is vegetarian and not species appropriate for dogs. Canines can survive on strictly vegetables, but to thrive they require a meat based diet.

So the review of this Natures recipe dog food will be based solely on the quality of the non meat ingredients. The first ingredient is rice, which is a decent quality grain. The protein comes from soybean meal. Soy is not as high a quality protein as meat, but is a valid substitute. Soy however can cause allergies in canines.

Barley is another quality grain found in this Natures Recipe dog food. Canola oil is the main source of fat, but is not a high quality product. The only vegetables are carrots.

This dog food also uses synthetic vitamin K, which is a substance that is being linked to liver disease.

In summary, Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin Vegetarian dog food should be used by those canines that have allergy problems with meat protein.

Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin Vegetarian Dog Food Ingredients
Ground rice, soybean meal, cracked pearled barley, canola oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), calcium carbonate, dicalcium phosphate, salt, dehydrated carrots, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), inositol, niacin supplement, vitamin A supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, beta-carotene, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), garlic oil, minerals (zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), onion extract, garlic powder, rosemary extract.
